Networking Transcript
So, what is networking? Well, it sounds more complicated than it actually is. Imagine this. You meet an old friend who you used to work with for dinner. They ask if they can bring their cousin with them who has just moved to the city. You haven't met them before, but spend the evening chatting with them and making a great first impression.
Now, this could simply lead to them inviting you to play football with their new five-a-side club, or it could lead to them suggesting you apply for a job that has just been advertised at their company. Either way, by networking, you've put yourself at the front of their mind. Networking can happen anywhere, but it could be worth seeking out professional events. These events could be job fairs, industry talks, and even courses. In short, anywhere where other professionals will be in the same room as you is a networking opportunity.
Don't forget that networking also happens online. Social platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook are a great place to make connections. The number one rule of networking is that good things happen when conversations get started. Whether you're talking to the manager of a company that you would love to work for, commenting on someone's post about the industry, or just meeting new people in a social situation, every conversation is an opportunity to make connections and share your personal brand.
